Purposes:

We organized this chat to make online contact easier, and bring Alsace genealogy researchers together. We aren't trying to replace Alsatian genealogical websites, just improve communication. Each Chat Room session will be logged, but APPROVAL for publishing the Chat ARCHIVE is needed by each participant. If no permission is given, that person's contributions will be erased from the published log.

How :

Use any IRC client, for instance mIRC. Download at http://mirc.com. See this helpful website for more information: http://www.iigs.org/irc/ (English, French, German and other languages). The OTHER WAY: Java Interface is available to access from the web: the present java interface is for Netscape and IE. IE - if it doesn't work, change parameter is required (SEE French with drawing "I-E CHANGE PARAMETER GUIDE"). .

Configuration :

IRC Server : irc.rootsweb.com , port : 6667 , Choose a nickname, and enter the Alsace chat by typing ' /join #alsace' by itself.

If necessary see our little New User step by step setup guide on MIRC 5.91 for MS Windows. For Mac Intosh see also the same MIRC option than given.

Who :

Anyone who 's interested in Alsacian genealogy is invited to come to chat -- German, French or English.We'll help with any needed translation. Each member that comes in more than twice can request a little mini-webpage to present a query about their Alsacian research. Everyone will be able to access the little page by right-clicking on the nick in the member list .Of course, such a page will not be created unless the member wants and requests it.
